Resumen
Maxillary pseudocysts are intrabony cavities lacking an epithelial lining, i. e., they are not true cysts. A review is made of solitary (or simple or hemorrhagic) bone cysts, which are of traumatic origin in 25% of cases, and of aneurysmatic bone cysts. The latter are of uncertain etiology, but have been related to different fibrous, dysplastic or vascular lesions of the jaws. Both types of pseudocyst account for between 0.2 and 1 % of ali maxillary cyst lesions; they are usually asymptomatic and are typically found in young patients in the 5-25 years age range. Following simple voiding, the prognosis of solitary bone cysts is excellent, with good preservation of pulp vitality of the affected teeth. The prognosis is lessfavorable in the case of aneurysmatic bone cysts, where treatment depends on the extent of the les ion. In this sense, extensive resection is occasionally required to prevent possible recurrences.
