Sixteen cases of white sponge nevus corresponding to 6 dif.ferent families are presented. The lesions consisted of generally asymptomatic spongy white plaques, predominantly affecting the jugal mucosa. The degree of involvement was variable, though the more tenuous lesions were typically observed in younger patients. The histopathological findings were similar in ali cases, with epithelial acanthosis and parakeratosis, and intracellular edema witlún the spinous layer. In no case was cellular dysplasia observed. The clinical and histopathological f eatures are discussed, and the dif.ferential diagnosis with other white lesions of the oral mucosa is commented.
