A comparative geochemical study of peat deposits from bog and marsh (with marine influence) deposits has been performed. The bog is located in Tremedal Mountains (Teruel, Iberian Range, Spain) and the marsh in the Castellon coast (east Spain). Peat from bog deposits is mainly made of Sphagnum moss, and the peat from marhs shows mainly grasses and sedges (Juncus, Thypha and Phragmites) and fortuitously some halofites (Salicornia). The geochemical analyses were performed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and atomic emision spectrometry (ICP-MS and ICP-AES). The greater values for B, Sr, Na, Mg, Fe and S were found in marsh deposits, and the greater contents of Ba, Be, Cu for the bog deposits. V has a similar concentration in both environments.
