Abstract

Viral infections in the oral cavity of HIV+ patients are mainly from the herpes virus and papillomavirus. Herpes virus that usually infect HIV patientsare the herpes simplex virus type 1 and 2 (HSV), varicella zoster virus (VZV), citomegalovirus (CMV) and the most frequent, the Epstein-Barr Virus. All of them show clinically oral ulcerations but EBV thath is the responsible of oral hairy leukoplakia. Papillomavirus infection can manifest as 4 lesions: squamous cell papilloma, condyloma acuminatum, common wart and focal epithelial hyperplasia. Each of them is related with a specific HPV genotype, although in HIV-infected subjets, unusual genotypes have been isolated from such lesions. In addition to clinical manifestations, we report the techniques to diagnosis these infections, their prediction worth in the HIV infrection and their treatment.
