Résumé

The increasing use of work teams as basic operation units in organizations has generated a lot of literature focusing on the study of small group and groups in general. However, although currently focused research teams working regains a renewed interest, its origins date back to the 30s coinciding with the socio-technical models. Even so, its use can not be considered linear, although certainly experts agree that groups: (1) 1980 as the peak as far as the interest in the work teams are concerned, and (2) a continuous and rapid rise today (Bell and Kozlowski, 2010). This popularity magnified in recent decades, may be because the teams are able to make the difference between one or another organization, so that often the means by which organizations adopt a flexible and competitive advantage and the opportunity to simultaneously satisfy employee satisfaction and organizational productivity (Guzzo and Salas, 1995; Lawler, 1992), essential to their survival, especially in these times of economic crisis. The aim of this paper is to make a brief review of the main models of group effectiveness and suggest new research directions.
