Is there any place for using arts when teaching economics?

Resumen

The need to promote the development of skills that encourage reflection, critical thinking, imagination, etc. is fundamental to learning Economics. Therefore, the promotion of creativity can play a central role in the transformation of teaching practices at universities. The aim of this paper is to examine the opportunities of the use of arts as an educational tool for stimulating creativity when teaching Economics. The reasons that recommend the change in educational practices in higher education in the specific case of teaching Economics are identified. In this context, the central role that creativity should play in the transformation of higher education is underlined. The analysis of the art as educational tool through an experience at the classroom shows that, despite the opportunities offered by this approach, their use in the teaching of nonarts subjects is still very scarce at universities. Lastly, the article suggests some future lines of research as the problem of how to evaluate the creativity of college students and how to evaluate the impact of the arts in learning Economics and in the skills associated to creativity.
