Abstract

This study's main objective is to analyze the infiuence of adolescence on the family atmosphere and family communication, and to determine the infiuence of these family variables indicators of child psychosocial adjust- ment: depressive symptoms, satisfaction with life, loneliness and perceived stress. The sample consisted of 487 adolescents of both sexes (246 boys and 241 girls) aged between 12 and 18 years (M = 14.23, ST = 1.69). There are three groups of adolescents by age: early, middle and late. Results obtained indicate statistically significant differences between early adolescents and middle; the middle stage adolescents are showing less openness in commu- nicating with his parents, a less warm family atmosphere and worse scores on psychosocial adjustment indicators. These findings and their implications are discussed.
