Resumen

El aumento de la esperanza de vida y el envejecimiento de la población han hecho particularmente importante la diferenciación entre personas mayores (generalmente, de 60 a 79 años) y personas muy-mayores (de 80 años o más). Este estudio explora el efecto de la edad, del género y de la institucionalización sobre la salud percibida y la satisfacción con la vida, en 1003 personas mayores de Luanda (Angola). Se estimó un modelo de análisis de varianza multivariante (MANOVA) para evaluar estos efectos. Los resultados ofrecen evidencia de puntuaciones más bajas en satisfacción con la vida y salud percibida para los muy-mayores y para las personas institucionalizadas. Sin embargo, la mayor satisfacción vital que presentan los no institucionalizados desaparece cuando llegan a la cuarta edad. No se observan diferencias en función del sexo, aunque sí se observó una ligera caída de la satisfacción con la vida de las mujeres mayores de 80 años.
