Resumen

Surgical removal of mandibular third molars is normally followed by an inflamatory reaction characterized by pain, swelling, and trismus. The purpose of this study was to compare the preoperative variables (age, sex, smoking habits and oral hygiene), with the postoperative in 100 impacted mandibular third molars. The age, the sex and smoking habits showed no significant difference with the postoperative pain, trismus and swelling. Significant statisticallyl us increase of the pain was found in the group of the poor oral hygiene, but not the swelling.
