Abstract

Trigeminal neuropathies originate due to diverse causes, the most frequent ones are the post-traumatic. The objective of this paper is to know the causes of origin and determine the factors that have an influence in the recovering from post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathies. We studied 34 patients with post-traumatic trigeminal neuropathies. The 62% of the cases were produced by impacted lower third molars. 41% were located in the mental nerve area and the 32% in the area of the lingual nerve. 50% of them had associated pain. Elder patients suffered from stronger pain. After 12 months they improved, either in a partial or total way, in 59% of the cases. Those who did not suffer from any pain got their sensitivity back sooner than the rest.
