Resumen

The aim of the present paper is the development and validation of a methodology for safety culture assessment through work meetings observation. The starting point was the most spreading definition of safety culture within the nuclear industry (International Atomic Energy Agency, 1991), its five dimensions and their attributes. This methodology was tested in a nuclear power plant, through the observation of a sum of 36 work meetings of different characteristics. Results show that work meetings observation is a useful method to assess safety culture. When compared with traditional methods for assessment of safety culture, it is easier to integrate in the daily activities -it is less disruptive- and allow to capture the «real safety culture».
