Abstract

As a Latin philologist, Jaime Siles was noteworthy for the attention he gave to the linguistic aspects of that language —from a historicist perspective— as well as his works on its literacy and political aspects. His outstanding studies of preliterary Latin and the latinization of Hispania, his translations of Catullus, his proposed systematization of Latin literature and his profound knowledge of the classical tradition have all enriched the field of literary criticism.
