El objetivo de este trabajo es ofrecer una explicación de los resultados contradictorios que existen en la literatura especializada en referencia al efecto directo que las alianzas estratégicas tienen en el desempeño organizativo, introduciendo el conocimiento y las capacidades de gestión del mismo que la empresa es capaz de generar como variable moderadora. Este efecto puede ser la explicación a los resultados contradictorios existentes en la literatura especializada con respecto al efecto directo que la participación en una alianza estratégica ejerce en el desempeño organizativo. Los resultados de esta investigación muestran que la relación entre alianzas estratégicas y desempeño organizativo está moderada tanto por la generación de capacidades en gestión del conocimiento como por la memoria organizativa de las empresas participantes en el acuerdo.
