Resumen

Forced conversion of Muslims to the kingdom of Valencia, declared in 1526, did not involve a social equalization between Christians «old» and «new» because it maintained the status gap existed previously. The article focuses on the three fundamental aspects of the contents of this difference: the intensity of the income supported, the imposition of mandatory services and obstacles to the internal and external migration, has its origins in the conditions of domination imposed on the infidel population immediately after the conquest of the 13th Century, and trace the outline of its evolution throughout the Low Middle Ages. It is argued that this population was subjected to a bonded group and it was this retention which crashed in practice the chances of genuine assimilation after conversion.
