Abstract
Export promotion hinges on the positive relationship between export and firms� efficiency. The design of these policies requires a deep knowledge of the export activity. This paper analyses the dynamics of entry-exit by export destinations of Spanish firms over 1997-2005. While most firms export to one or two markets, a reduced percentage exports to several countries. Turnover in export destinations is remarkably high, which suggests that entry costs to export are higher than those by markets. The evidence shows the existence of a ranking in the export destination portfolio.
