Abstract
This paper provides empirical evidence of the offshoring strategies used by the Spanish firms. Furthermore, analyzes the determinants of the choice of the most common modes of offshoring. The results indicate that the key factors are associated with the characteristics of the company rather than those related to country risk or cultural distance. Moreover, the main destinations for these operations are China and Eastern Europe. In the first case, these companies use mainly outsourcing in industries of low technological intensity, and in the second, they prefer its own subsidiaries in more technology-intensive industries
