Abstract

This paper. presents a quantitative model attempting an explanation of the wage share variations in gross value added for the spanish industry over the period 1964 to 1981. Two sources of variation were isolated, namely: (a) wage share variations within each industry; (b) changes in the share of the gross value added of each industry with respect to the total industrial gross value added. Furthermore, interactive effects between sources are analized. The empirical analysis shows that, variations in the individual wage share explain most of the aggregate wage share variation in the industrial gross value added; on the contrary, such variations do not appear to have been influenced by composition and interactive effects. Interestingly enough, the aggregate wage share continously increased over the whole period except for 1967 through 1969.
