Abstract

This article includes a review of the areas involved in social cognition and looks at the most significant problems encountered by people diagnosed with schizophrenia in each of them: Emotional Processing; Theory of Mind; Social Perception; Social Schemata and Attributional Style or Bias. Secondly, it describes recently developed intervention programmes designed to improve some of the deficits in social cognition: Training of Affect Recognition (TAR); Social Perception Programme from Integrated Psychological Therapy (IPT); Social Cognition and Interaction Training (SCIT); and Integrated Neurocognitive Therapy (INT).
