Sustainable tourism industry indicators have been developed with a strong emphasis on environmental and economic aspects. These indicators neglected to include subjective components with regard to the local population and tourist perceptions. This paper takes an in-depth look at a comparative study of the controversial results of objective and subjective indicators and their application to both sun and beach and cultural Spanish destinations. This paper shows the importance of subjective indicators to the analysis of sustainable destination development.
