Abstract

Exposition of the different experiences carried out, whether in vivo with mice and rats as in vitro with mouse isolated organs, in order to elucidate which is or are the routes of migration followed by Dollfusinus frontalis Biocca et Ferretti, 1958 (Trematoda: Brachylaimidae) at the level of the small mammal definitive host, from the moment in which the infesting stage of metacercaria is ingested via oral together with the terrestrial Pulmonate Gastropod Mollusc, second intermediate host, and until reaching the final microhabitat constituted by the nasal and frontal sinuses, where the development of the adult stage takes place. The results of the experiences done suggest that apparently only the metacercariae which, when the Gastropod is masticated in the mouyh, are able toescape from the pericardial cavity of the snail after break down of the pericardium and to contact and quickly attach to a bucal or lingual mucosa, thus avoiding their posterior deglution, will be the ones which will migrate successfully until reaching the nasal and frontal sinuses following a direct way within a few hours after the ingestion of the mollusc by the mamma!.
