Resumo
En esta revisión se recogen las principales investigaciones realizadas acerca de los efectos de la nicotina y el tabaco sobre el procesamiento de información en sujetos humanos. En la introducción se presentan aspectos psicofarmacológicos de la nicotina y las hipótesis acerca del consumo del tabaco. A continuación se examinan los efectos de la nicotina y el tabaco sobre diversos procesos cognitivos: 1) Ejecución psicomotora, 2) Procesos atencionales, 3) Memoria y 4) Otras tareas cognitivas y aplicadas. Estos efectos se relacionan con la posible utilidad de la nicotina en el tratamiento de los déficits cognitivos que acompañan a la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Por último, se discuten los problemas teóricos y metodológicos que se plantean en las investigaciones acerca de este tema.
