Abstract
The aim of this essay is to study one aspect of the complex connection between Greek and Roman literature: Menander's promotion of an "intellectualized comedy", away from the traditional approaches of other authors of the mese and the nea, and the degree of influence of this Menandrian comedy in the production of Plautus and Terentius; in particular, regarding the different purposes of the characters in the subject of love and their connection with the sociopolitical proposals of philosophers and other thinkers of the time.
