Resum
The article reviews the growth experienced by the Spanish regions over the period 1955-2000, enlarging upon already known results inthree directions. First of all, it describes the profiles of the geographical localisation of activity, confirming the curb on concentration that has taken effect since the end of the seventies. Secondly, it questions the aim of per capita income convergence when this takes place as a result of the loss of local population. Lastly, it analyses how inequality in the distribution of personal income has developed both in time and between regions. The main message is that growth accompanied by geographical and social cohesion is more important than per capita income convergence.
