Abstract

The tertiary basin of Rubielos de Mora is located in the Iberian Range. During the Lower-Middle Miocene was configurated as a half-graben where a lake developed. After a palaeontological study of micrommamals from upper deposits of the lacustrine sediments, an age Rambian-lower Aragonian was inferred. The palynological study of the sediments of Rubielos de Mora basin revealed the existence of a warm-temperate rich flora. The aquatic and amphibian vegetation was represented by the genus Potamogeton, Polygonum y Menyanthes, and some species of the families Nymphaeaceae, Sparganiaceae y Typhaceae. The surroundings of the lake were inhabited by species of the families Taxodiaceae, Juglandaceae, Ulmaceae, Salicaceae, Myricaceae, Nyssaceae and Clethraceae-Cyrillaceae. Finally, in the zones out of a lacustrine influence, open coniferous forests with a diverse undergrow where several species of trees as Acer and Engelhardia and shurbs of different genus and families developed. The studied palynoflora difers to Lower and Middle Miocene floras from Catalonia, because of the lack of abundant megathermical taxa and not estimable percentages of 'pre-mediterranean' xerophitic elements. Nevertheless, some similarities between the Duero basin palynoflora and the studied one were remarked. Fundamentaly, several levels of the upper Aragonian/Vallesian from Torremormojón (Palencia) and Vallesian from Peñafiel (Valladolid) are compared.
