Resumo
This paper presents a brief overview of the liberalization of telecommunication services in Europe and Spain. The central part of the study evaluates the welfare gains that Spain may derive from the process of tariffrebalancing in traditional telephony. Cost estimates for different types of service are obtained by applying the cost allocation mechanisms used in the UK. Optimum prices are calculated taking into account the externalities in the demand for telephone services. The paper includes some considerations about the impact of the redistribution of telecommunication tariffs in Spain.
