Resumen

The current socio‐economic situation, under the influence of the economic crisis that began in 2008, has had a strong impact on mobility in metropolitan areas. In the last decade, a considerable reduction in the use of public transport has been produced, in favor of the use of private transport. This reduction is more visible in those areas farther from the centers of main cities. In the current context of promoting the use of public transport for a sustainable mobility, knowing the causes of this decrease in the demand for travel is a key element to be able to modify this trend. Using a real scenario, concretely, the city of Valencia and the MetroValencia network, it is intended to determine those residential spaces that show potential unsatisfied demands. The communication presents the model developed for the search and identification of these spaces. It is based on a regression analysis applied to the population assigned to each station and the demand for real travelers, in two different time periods. Using the TransCAD GIS tool, a direct estimation of transport demand was made, considering distance as a key element to explain the use of this mode of transport. This model allows knowing the characteristics of the environment close to the stations studied, which contributes to deepen the knowledge of the relationship between the population and the use of this mode of transportation.
