Resum

Accessibility (measured in access time) to urban green spaces (parks and gardens) is considered by the population as one of the elements that make up their quality of life. The quantity and distribution of these spaces, in particular the first one, have been used as indicators to measure the quality of the urban environment. The study of residents accessibility to this type of spaces ‐that, in addition to vegetation, are equipped for the enjoyment of the same‐, is a way to determine if there are spaces or neighbourhoods worse served, in need of an improvement, by approaching to the average of the city or to the standards determined by national and international organisms. The use of spatial databases and GIS tools, as well as information on the basic characteristics and location of the resident population, allows detailed analysis that facilitate the proposals for improvement. A research has been developed in the city of Valencia, using pedestrian accessibility, the most sustainable. The distribution of green equipment has been analysed in order to verify whether or not they correspond to the distribution of the population and to determine if there are differences related to the characteristics of the same, in a city with a large number of green square meters, although very concentrated in space.
