Abstract

Background.- Relate the information provided in the classroom and the one showed in the mass media can enhance synergies between university and society. One approach to this question is through scientific news. This study analyzes the students valuation from a formative point of view of making a report on a scientific news. Method. – In the study 48 Psychology Grade students participated, who indicated the advantages, difficulties and negative aspects to make a report on scientific news, and if they would recommend this activity to other courses. Results.- A formative activity very practical, which allows deeper into a topic, and integrate information were the main positive aspects. The difficulties focused on seeking out the news, relate it to the content of the subject, and synthesize information. The reduced length of the report and the freedom of choice of theme were negatively considered. The recommendation of this activity to other courses was unanimous. Conclusions.- The training activities linking academia to society are valued positively by the students, and can help to train professionals as agents of social change to achieve greater society scientific knowledge.
