Resumen
This paper deals with the origin of Tribunal de las Aguas de la Vega de VAlencia (The Water Court of the Plain of Valencia), one of the more controversial aspects regarding this institution, known worldwide. The author analyzes the few sources existing about it, above all those concerning possible Roman and Muslim origins, and the different theories which have been proposed. In the end he suggests a late-Roman origin in the context of the decline in the institutional life of cities and the introducion of Christian concepts in applying the Law.
