Abstract

Catullus carmen IV is a good example of arte allusiva and reflects both the humorous key that was written with and the calculated mixture of sources that inspired it: here difficulties are not to be found in the text but in the tone, as its contents allow a double interpretation, which made this poem become a parody. However, the aspect of its tone is not graphic, but phonic, mimetic and mental. The poem shows a multiple parody with a complex, precise, and organic shape: there are different intertexts which require a public or an audience able to understand the tone and intent with which the carmen was written.
