Resumo

Roger Chartier observed the radical opposition between the potential of new forms of writing and the categories that defined the prevailing order in books and discourse: intellectual property, the uniqueness and originality of creation, and the individual identity recognisable in the work. Furthermore Chartier, synthesised how today's communication society has not only substantially changed the system of production and dissemination of literary works, but the author's own status as a generator of a product, whose creative and commercial potential has increased but, paradoxically, is challenged and threatened by new technologies. The contributions in this book explore various facets of these issues, addressing inescapable aspects of the new relationships and paradigms that have been created or reformulated concerning the role of the author and how he or she fits in to the changing publishing framework, and how the legal system is adapting to the changing conditions and contexts of the contemporary cultural field.
