The Standard Model (SM) is the best theory with which theoretical physicists describe elementary particles and their interactions, excluding gravity. The SM is a quantum field theory which describes the interaction of fermions through the mediation of gauge bosons and the interactions of gauge bosons among themselves. It provides an elegant theoretical framework to describe three of the four forces in the nature: the strong or Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), the electromagnetic or Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and the weak interactions, unified with the electromagnetism in the so-called electroweak theory.
