Résumé

The aim of this tesis is confirming the influence of the german epic dramatist B.Brecht on the british dramatist Edward Bond. The title of this work is Influence of brechtian stage on the british Theatre: Edward Bond. On chapter one we analise Brechts main teoretical scripts, titled On Theatre I, II, III, and we extract the main features and tools of Brechts epic theatre. It helps us to understand the differences between the brechtian epic theatre and naturalist theatre. At the beginning of the twentieht century, Brecht was seeking for a new kind of theatre with new themes and a new effect on the public. This effect is making the public to think about the action and being critic. We analice some brechtian theater masterpieces and we see that naturalist theatre and epic theatre are opposite in relation to themes, aesthetic and didactic aim. In Brechts epic theatre there is Verfremdungseffect, a new use of music and light, there are bare stages and no causal relation between the scenes. On capter two, titled B.Brecht and E. Bond, we look for the relation between both writers. How did E. Bond learn about Brechts epic theatre? did he see any epic masterpiece?. Where did E. Bond make exercices about brechtian setting?. On chapter tree we will find a similar didactic basis on both writers. Bond calls his theatre 'rationalist theatre', and makes the public conscient of violence in our society. Bond sees violence as a growing problem in our society and tries to show the danger of violence. On chapter four we make a comparison between two masterpieces, Der Kaukasische Kreidekreis and Narrow Road to the Deep North. We find their very similar setting, their common way of acting, their same strategies and almost the same persons. So we can firmly state ,there is a brechtian influence on some Bonds theater pieces.
