Résumé

To fully develop their communicative competence as future Civil Engineers, not only must undergraduate university students be familiar with the specific contents of their field of study, but they must also be capable of using the technical expressions common to their profession. To enhance said competence, this dissertation first proposes a didactic model contextualized in such a way that these students, through specifically designed activities, produce a series of discourse genres and subgenres of an academic and professional nature. A corpus of selected texts, namely professional electronic mail and academic/professional oral presentations, was then compiled and analyzed in terms of the linguistic-textual, rhetorical and pragmatic characteristics of the students work. Finally, relevant conclusions were drawn and, considering the fact that these students are not yet professionals, proposals were made for improving their communicative competence. Disciplines such as Applied Linguistics, Textual Linguistics and Pragmatics provide a theoretical framework for the didactic model and corpus analysis. Likewise, a detailed definition of Academic and Professional Spanish (Español Profesional y Académico, EPA) is given, and the linguistic and textual markers of the genres chosen for this research are discussed. Given the didactic nature of this research, the teaching of communication skills, using resources like Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and EPA genres, is highlighted.
