The aim of this doctoral research titled The Initial Training in Environmental Education for Secondary General Education Teachers during Their Training Period is to carry out a research into the basic knowledge bachelors have before starting to work as teachers in order to work on Evironmental Education in Secondary Education. The initial hypothesis consists of students receiving an inadequate training during their university studies in order to face the Environmental Education in Secondary classrooms. A study about what students taking the CAP? know with regard to the Secundary Education syllabus has been carried out. It has been also examined these students concept of Viable Development and Evironmental Education. Likewise an analysis about the level of learned contents regarding the environmental problem and other suitable teaching resources was carried out, too. This work begins with an explanation of the theoretic framework that contextualizes this research and supports the results. It comprehends some aspects such as: Environmental Education and Viable Development, International Institutions involvement in the process of protecting the environment. It has been carried out a study of its position within Spanish Education System by showing the state of the Environmental Education in the Secondary General Education and the possible alternatives to the approaches working up until today. The second part of this work consists of a display of the research structure, where the following elements are shown: the methodology, the sample selection process and the explanation of the questionnaire structure, which has been the measurement tool for collecting information. At the end, the results and conclusions of the research are displayed. It must be emphasized, in the results section, the little training prospective Secondary teachers have regarding methodological and teaching aspects with respect to Environmental Education.
