Abstract

Objective To analyse the influence of anthropometric parameters on lipid and apo B plasma values in fasting situation and after 20 mg/d of atorvastatin in females with heterozygous familial hypercolesterolemia (FH). Design Uncontrolled intervention study with 20 mg/d of atrovastatin in 34 females with FH randomly selected. Results Abdominal fat deposits influence blood pressure and fasting TG plasma levels pre and post treatment. We have found a significant, negative interaction between abdominal fat deposits and response to 20 mg/d of atorvastatin on cLDL plasma values. Females with higher abdominal fat deposits have lower decreases of cLDL after treatment. No interaction was found between treatment and BMI or age on pre or post treatment lipid and apo B plasma values. Conclusion Abdominal fat deposits should be corrected in females with FH in order to control lipid profile and to ovoid negative interaction with atorvastatin.
