Abstract

The Biblioteca Històrica de la Universitat de València preserves the draft of a long poem by the writer Rafael Ferrer i Bigné (València, 1836-1892) dedicated to praising the memory of King James. It is, almost in all likelihood, the verses that the 19th century writer –one of the main exponents of the Valencian branch of the Renaissance– must have composed for the literary contest held in the city of Valencia in.July 1876, on the occasion of the sixth centenary of the death of the Conqueror. But for various reasons he finally decided not to submit the poem to competition. In this work we study and edit a composition that the author abandoned in a very advanced state of writing
