Abstract
This article analyzes the reshoring strategy in the context of global value chains. Through a review of specialized literature, the concept of reshoring is defined, along with its driving factors, obstacles, and challenges. These aspects are evidenced in a sample of 240 Spanish manufacturing companies. The results indicate that the decision to reshore is not very common, with reshoring being primarily partial, recovering specific productive processes but not the entirety of the operations. Additionally, relocation tends to be directed towards the country of origin, mainly in purchasing raw materials and intermediate products, followed by other productive activities. The main motivations are greater control over the value chain, proximity to the customer, and the desire to be more sustainable. The article concludes with managerial and public policy recommendations, emphasizing the need to promote the development of local capabilities and the drive for innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
