Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the volume of displacements of the population of the province of Valencia during the pandemic, paying special attention to the movements produced between cities and rural municipalities in the interior. For this, two clearly differentiated data sources have been used. In the first place, based on data from the INE's daily mobility study carried out using mobile phone data, the volume of population leaving their area of residence for another area in two different time periods (before and during the pandemic). Second, data from the social network Twitter has also been used. Specifically, the sample of tweets analyzed is limited to 2020, between the months of February and September, and is made up of the people who have made georeferenced tweets during this period of time. The comparative analysis of these data in different periods has allowed the detection of variations in the daily mobility flows (residence-work) and in the location of people before and during the pandemic. In addition, the comparative study based on the territorial scope has also served to analyze in which environments the introduction of mobility restrictions has had a greater impact.
